Well, if you want it, here is the preview version and it works :)

If you would like the file check the bottom of the post. But be warned. There is a downside to this (CHECK WARNING, AND STOP). It is highly recommended you give this great thought, and if you do, try and get your hands on the current kernel, the current SU files, just in case.

*WARNING*
Upon using it on your console, you won't be able to put it back to the usual Dashboard. And hencefourth won't be allowed to connect to Xbox Live until the 19th, when the real dashboard update is realeased and will grant you access, and will update your current version


Installation:

To install the preview dashboard on your Xbox, place it in the root of a USB memory stick, and place it on your xbox, then reset your xbox. This will initiate the install.

There is a chance of being banned for this. Though MS never explcitly said they would ban for it being moved around, as someone may of moved their HD on to another Xbox.

But even if its on another HDD it doesnt matter, they make a note of you console ID number, so when it connects on the 19th MS will compare it against the list of the preview testers and see its not the same.

Indeed they will Phat, but you have to understand, they can't just go banning; despite saying about the 'it'll only work on certain consoles, many of the people with it would just go and plug it in their friends xbox, and do this. They have to take precautions.Banning isnt one of them

They can ban all they want, the people agreed to terms and conditions and a big warning was put on the email. Also whats stopping the update to have an individual ID number in each update? Nothing, its only a around 2000 people who got the update legit, not hard to do with that number. Plus that download could be tied to a specific account, and MS could see that no problem.

Im just saying, everyone seems to think MS are stupid and wont do anything, I think when this comes out, there will be a fair few bannings, from this and GoW2, its been a good while since MS did the last round so now is the perfect time.

I honestly don't think they'd ban. They themselves sent a warning saying that if you were to connect an NXE hard drive to a non NXE box, it would update it. They never warned you NOT to do this, just to avoid it if you have Xbox LIVE, and if you want it for the next three weeks.

I like that they have tried to add features that gamers will actually use, the HDD install will be a great addition and the party system will be very useful.

Avatars are an add on to bring in the family crowd, and I can see why their there.

Was just thinking, if i grab the current update (kernel or w.e) and copy them, and then use the update on another console. And then remove all the new files and replace them with the originals, it should revert to its old state.
But does this update effect the actual hardware? Motherboard etc?

The new dash overwrites the main code of the old dash, the main program file is stored in hardware which then hooks out to the HDD for some of the other files. Presently only MS can reverse the process, its not just a case of deleting or swapping files to get back to normal.

Gah... Well there you have it. Might try it a few days though before the release. Give it a peek. Or take to a friends house and shove it on his spare console :)

MS havent done bans for a long time, although I can see them doing it either on or just after Gears of War 2 and the new dash getting released.

Yeah, ---- not playing Live for 3 weeks, I have the new dash!!! Yeah, ---- risk getting band, because I get to use a DASHBOARD to look at before I start playing actual games!

Actualy it will improve some games. I purposely haven't played GTA4 as I know the game will play a lot better running from the HDD than constantly streaming off the disc. Other games will be much improved too due to smaller load times.

I'm looking forward to it for those reasons and was tempted to stick it on my spare 360 but I need to get as much Live play out of it before it gets banned....so a few weeks of no Live stopped me.

Think of all the single player fun you could have instead of playing on Live. Dead Space, Far Cry 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, all amazing single player experiences and well worth playing to completion.

However with Gears being released between now and then I am sure that will sway a lot of people into remaining online for the duration.

Installing to the HDD is the feature I'm looking forward to most. When you're in Bowerstone on Fable 2 the disc feels like it's going to come burst out of the xbox shattering all over the place so a quieter xbox and less load time's is gonna be sweet.

It'll also probably fix my DRE's on Halo 3 so that'll save a lot of grief!
