View Full Version : LittleBigPlanet faces worldwide recall

The European delay of LittleBigPlanet we mentioned earlier has blossomed into a worldwide recall of the game due to passages from the Islamic holy text Qur'an being included in the background music in one of the levels.
"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," admitted the company in a statement. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused."
Yesterday a reader sent us a link to a music file containing the two offensive phrases, which can be found here. (http://mt14.quickshareit.com/share/preview/soundclip22503c0.wav) Hit the jump for the translation of the offending phrases.

The words are:
1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').

Thanks to NSider for providing the link and translation.

We'll keep you updated as we hear more on how this recall effects release dates.

Its a shame that PS3 will have to wait for the system seller that they think this is.

It got 10/10 from Edge this month, very few games get that so this must be exceptional.

Surely this could have been rectified for those of us who are going to be playing it online with an update patch? Ridiculous that it has been delayed for this.

@ bingo - I've seen that one before and there's another one about as well. People will go to some lengths to annoy others they really will.

Not everyone is online though.

Best play it safe. I know it's not a big deal to us, but MS had a problem some years back when they released a game knowing that it had similar content that needed to be taken out, but hoped no one would catch on. People noticed the content and a recall was issued about 3-4 months after release. Lucky for MS that the game was a flop so it wasn't as bad as it could've been.

LBP is an extremely hyped game and Sony doesn't want to ---- with it's reputation, so they're doing their best to rectify it all with as little fuss as possible.

This will cost them a few bob to rectify, the game is already pressed and shipments have already been sent to retailers. They will have to reprint the disks, recall the the stock thats already out there, package and resend the game. Not a small operation by any means.

Its a shame as I know lots of people where really looking forward to this, one of my friends has the day off booked to play it. He will be pissed when I tell him.

They wouldn't do it if it was a Christian or Catholic reference.

Its just most extremists are in that religion, and they don't wanna get blown up?

No offence, or racism intended.

I don't know how racism would play into this, since Islam has nothing to do with race.

Also, what does "they don't wanna get blown up" mean in the context of that sentence? I understand the first part of it (although I would argue to the contrary), but the second?
