It's out today and it has these new enhancements.

PS3 System Software version 2.50

Improved Official Bluetooth Headset wireless headset support, including an on-screen indicator that shows volume, battery charge, and mute functions.
Bluetooth Headset Wireless headset High Quality (HQ) mode, which utilises advanced wireless technologies and the headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with PS3 system.
An in-game screenshot capture tool - titles that support the feature will be announced in the future.
PS3 Trophies user interface enhancement - When players acquire a Trophy, the in-game notification will now include the specific Trophy icon created by the developer, while more intuitive options for comparing Trophies with friends have been added, including an icon to represent each Trophy level.
Video – Video scene search functionality will provide thumbnails to help you find a particular scene in a video more easily.
Information Board – The Information Board will be able to include direct links to PlayStation Store, making it easier for PS3 owners to download content that they read about on the Information Board.
Power save – PS3 owners will have the option to automatically shut-off their console or controllers after pre-selected periods of inactivity.
Flash 9 content becomes supported on the Internet Browser.

It also includes a more detailed friends list, with information including how long it has been since a friend signed onto PSN.

Screenshot capture sounds good as well.

Most of the features are `me to', they seem to copy the best ideas from Ninty and MS and implement them into each firmware release. It ends up being a mish mash of ideas with no real continuous thread running through any of them.

The screen shot idea is good though, but again its only going to be of use if its easy to do and have a good ability to share them or the ability to get them off the PS3 and into some sort of online storage.

Will you have to pause the game to then take a screen shot? Or is it a seperate button combination? If its done through the Pause menu, think of how many games you own that actually put PAUSE up on the screen, surely that would spoil any picture you took.

They should go the MS way and do 2 big firmware implementations rather than have one every month like it is at present.

Its a pain in the arse to log in download and install a new firmware practically every time I switch the PS3 on. Which isnt that often these days at all.

I actually pre-ordered a PS3 game recently - Motorstorm 2 is the only one due out before xmas that seems worth playing. The exclusive titles they have lined up to take on MS and Ninty this xmas just dont cut it.

It is annoying I agree there but not with the games. Little Big Planet is THE game I am waiting for the PS3. I know I'll be on my PS3 a lot more than I ever have. That bloody beta took hours from my life and ended too soon for me to finish my level off as well. So now I must play it to the death (when it's released of course) ;).

I gave my LBP beta code to MJ, I accept that this could lead to some great gameplay but I for one dont want to be sitting for hours creating something only to play it for 5 mins and start on another idea. I dont have the time or inclination to do it.

Its like going to a top restaurant and being expected to prepare and cook the meal yourself before being able to eat it.

FFS another one! Isn't there one massive ----ing version due that includes Home? Why couldn't they just throw these updates in with that? None of this ---- is urgent, but now I have to download another goddamn update when I turn on my PS3.
