ok quick techey question

ive got a wireless controller and a wireles head set i switch my 360 on with the controller then switch my head set on only to find it asains its self to controller port 2 and the light comes on

I had this problem when I first got the headset. I think I just synced them both at the same time and it worked. Not too sure though as it was a while ago.
