Id Software just opened a website where shooter fans can toss their hat in the ring for a chance to participate in the beta test for the upcoming Quake Live.
Entering an email address in the site's form notifies prospective testers that their address has "been added to the beta list." The site offers no information on when applicants can expect a response.
Unlike past Quake titles, which relied on the traditional FPS gaming model, Quake Live is unique in that it's completely ad-supported and runs in a browser window, while maintaining the pretty graphics and frantic gameplay the genre has become famous for -- at least, according to id.
This bizarre experiment, combined with id's record of FPS excellence, was enough to pull me into signing up, and I get the feeling many curious Quake fans will do the same. Get your details in early if you're interested.
