I, myself am not one, but i do have an excellent one, and i have wished her, and i wish all the other mothers out there aswell!

It may seem like a pointless holiday to some now but centuries ago it wasn't.

Centuries ago it was considered important for people to return to their home or 'mother' church once a year. So each year in the middle of Lent, everyone would visit their 'mother' church - the main church or Cathedral of the area.

Inevitably the return to the 'mother' church became an occasion for family reunions when children who were working away returned home. (It was quite common in those days for children to leave home for work once they were ten years old.)

And most historians think that it was the return to the 'Mother' church which led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants, or as apprentices, being given the day off to visit their mother and family.

As they walked along the country lanes, children would pick wild flowers or violets to take to church or give to their mother as a small gift.

Not a fan of this Holiday or Holidays of a similar nature, like I've said before. So in protest I refused to buy her any of the traditional gifts (Cards, Flowers and Perfume) and instead got her a 23" TV and gave it her Yesterday [Saturday 1st March].

Pointless day but there you go... I would of got her that TV anytime I didn't need some crappy holiday to do it. If anything I put off getting it, simply for the fact I had something to give her and people looking down at me. Social Cohesion I suppose. :(
