Xbox drive about to die?

Yesterday i played some halo and gears, and everything was fine. Till i woke up this morning, turned on my 360, and it started making very weird animal like/grinding noises from the DVD-drive.

It still plays the discs, but each time it has to load it makes that godaweful noise. I tried replacing the game with a different disc or a normal DVD but each time the same result. I've also tried putting my xbox in an upright position instead of the normal horizontal position its ussualy in, but still the sound continues.

anyone know what i can do to resolve this? Or is ringing microsoft my only option?

Assuming your console is over 12 months old, wait till it dies then Red ring your console to get a free repair...I'm pretty sure that drive failure isn't covered by the extended warranty.

On one of my 360 i had the same problem and then all of a sudden put call duty 2 in and the disc would just constently spin when ejecting discs. Now i have a Elite and it is very quite and does not make any weird noises.

I also had weird loading noises when playing Rainbow.

If you have the warrenty i would take it back to the shop and get a new 360.

i put pgr4 in the other day and it was making that noise, and its happened before, however mines not died and now i put halo 3 in and it doesnt make a sound? maybe its just certain discs.

not been funny try a lens cleaner disc might sort it out

mines been doin wierd nosies since i had it back 4 repair. unfortunatly its just gone past its warranty

The only time I've had weird noises from my disc drive was when I played PGR3 and Dead Rising.

Mine started to make funny sounds and then it would take a while to open and then it wouldnt open at all the first time I tried to open it then after i while of that it went red so i sent it back an it came back good as new. I didnt tell them what the problem was they fixed the drive along with other things as it seems to have come back better then it was before
