I got my 360 on release day and have not had any problems with it..............untill NOW :(

Here is my story:

Got home last night and to kill some time started playing some arcade games, sonic and tetris etc The started playing Worms.................the screen froze. So i thought as usual just restart the xbox blah blah blah etc So restarted the xbox and restarted a worms skirmish :D Then suddenly i got THE NOISE *high to low pitch noise* EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Then it just stopped and the screen went black!

NEXT thing i notice there are three red lights flashing!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I was soooooo pissed off. "how couyld this happen to me" i said!

Considering it's a release day console, you've done well to last this long.
I didn't get 12 months out of mine.
However, you have my sympathies, it's a pain in the backside when it goes wrong.
XBox support will no doubt tell you 20-25 days in order to fix the console, but in fairness they seem to be getting them back a lot quicker than that. You can also register and track your console's repair on XBox.com.

Ive had the 3 red lights before, had to wait almost 3 months to get my 360 back, i wasn't annoyed though i thought it was funny.

A friend of mine borrowed a 360 from a mate, when he plugged it in he saw the 3 red lights he unplugged it punched it and it still works to this day :D

I can confirm this.

I had mine over 12 months, around 14 I think, was playing Guitar Hero, pressed the power button to turn it off, and it didn't quite go off, rather shown the 3 red lights.
So I turned it off then back on, all was fine, for like at least another 4 hours.
Then the next morning it just wouldn't start.

How long was it away for?
When mine came back it came back with a month's free live and I'd only been without the console for about two weeks. To be fair, that's a pretty good service..

Why does everyone send their consoles to MS? I've had three 360s die on me now (in a year and a half), Every time, I've just taken it back to Curry's (where I bought it) and they've just given me a brand new console straight away. Also, the guarantee re-news everytime they do it.

Last week when I took my console back (because it kept freezing) they replaced it with the new HDMI Premium. Also got £30 refunded to my bank because it's gone down in price now!

Its not just Curry's that do it, all shops would. My gf's wouldnt read disks, so she took it back to Game and they swapped it.

Much better than waiting 2-3 weeks for MS to repair your old one!

Yeah. Some have broke.

1st White one = Lasted a year, kept freezing.
2nd white one = Lasted a week, kept freezing.
3rd white one = Sold it when I got the Elite.

Elite = Lasted about 3 weeks (Wouldn't play Halo 3).
2nd Elite = Working, I love this new one.

Same here. Mine is a few months old now so if mine goes ---- up then I will demand an Elite - even if I have to pay an extra £50 notes it would be worth it for the updated hardware and the HDMI conection!

I have had severn Xbox 360 but about 4 kept freezing, one of my 360 had a dodgy disc tray, one had a dodgy power button would not turn off and my first 360 within 1 week had the red rings of death. Now i have an Elite and it has been running fine, had the odd freeze in Two worlds but that was the game.

Does not really bother me now as i have a new 1 year warrenty if i do get any major problems i can just swap it for a new console in gamestation.

Actually, I had the same feeling too. The Disc drive looked completely different and worked better for about a week. I get read disc errors a little now but not every single time i try to play.

Microsoft have increased the warrenty on the 360 up to 3 years and it is ment to be costing them about £1 billion for all the repairs they have been doing

glad you got your 360, i have had some bad luck with the 360s...

1st White One-lasted a year then broke down a week after warrenty
2nd White One-lasted 4 days then broke down with the 3 red rings
3rd White One-last literally 5 minutes, plugged in switched on then the rings again
4th White One-has lasted 8 months so far *touch wood* it will keep going on like the energizer bunny

OMG, ok here's my story of love, loss and desperation.
i was playing in the morning with mr fleeboi on good ol halo 2 (lawlz) and i had my play and charge kit in.
so when i got offline i turned my xbox off but kept it charging through the power pack (as you do)
so i left it for an hour or so went and has some coco pops.
goes back in the room
and i can see it

THREE RED QUARTERS, FLASHING.
my heart stopped.
i put my bowl of coco pops on the floor and nearly wept.
so i thoguht, well might aswell see if it was just something random,
and to my amazement, the damn thing still works. i was liek wtfff, so im thinking maybe, is something to do with leaving the play and charge kit in. i dunno, im just hoping that if i have a marathon gaming sesh on halo 3 soon, it wont die. :\

When UPS came to me recently they arrived early afternoon.
I'd call the Local UPS office, if I were you. To get the phone number, don't bother with the UPS website, instead go to Yell.com and search for UPS in Dundee (by the looks of the description). When you speak to the local depot, they're usuall really friendly.

ok the free month thing is a damp squib of a deal. your xbox is out of commission for a couple of days - gets picked up and should be back with you within 15 days(that is working days seemingly) so that is between 2 and 3 weeks without it so basically they are giving 1-2 FREE weeks live as compensation which comes to the grand total of........ £4-£7 ooh bill you are just too kind ya muppet!

OMG I absolutely cacked my pants 3 days ago. The missus was playing on the 360 and the screen went black and I said knock it off as I could see the 3 red rings of death flashing. I feared the worst but turned it off and back on and it works as good as normal. That is very strange behaviour though. It would be murder if it died on me now with all the good games coming out.

I had a minor scare last night. I was happly playing COD (when i could eventually get a game) and then suddenly the whole room infact the whole house went dark, The only light i could see was coming from my xbox 360 and it was RED :@ I was kacking it. Then my dad turned the switch back on and all was fine! This then happened again 10 mins later :/

I'm on my 3rd 360 myself, and I consider myself lucky for that. My launch console worked for 11 months, I got a second one which worked for a week, and now my third one has worked for about 15 months. Lately though it's been giving me weird sounds, as well as getting confused about which player I am on the Ring of Light.(It says player 2, not player 1)

Well I am on my 4th 360, I know people who have had more.... My one mate had his go wrong just before Christmas, it came back 2 weeks ago and broke after about 2 hours and has had to go back again.....

As compensation M$ have offered him a choice of 1 game from:-
