View Full Version : New to the Forum
Hello everyone :D
I'm Mecha and I've actually been using Console Monster for a while, yet failed to think about the Forum, so I thought, better late than never.
During the day I'm a Freelance Software Developer and at night I'm a Gaming Insider but this isn't really important here.
Anyway, thought I'd drop in and stay for a while :D

Hey Mecha, nice to see you on here and I hope you stick around more than a few posts. :D
I'm Cat, currently maybe ever so slightly drunk.
So what software do you mainly develop?

What games do you play?
What console/s do you own?

Welcome to Console Monster; have fun posting and enjoy gaming. :)
As above, what games do you play etc.?
I specialize in Multimedia and it's adaption into Consoles and OS Platforms. I mainly deal with Media Players for Windows but have also dabbled with XBOX 360 Development through the XNA Engine.
As far as my Consoles go, here's a list:-
- XBOX 360
- Nintendo Wii <--- I use this as a Gamecube too now since mine died on me
- Playstation 3
- Playstation 2
- XBOX
- Gamecube (broken)
- Nintendo DS
- Sega Master System
- Sega Mega Drive (Genesis)
- Sega Saturn
- Nintendo Entertainment System (NES or Famicom)
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES or S-Fami)
- Nintendo 64
- Gameboy Advance
- Playstation
As far as what I play is concerned, not very much as my time is tied up in various Project, etc. But, when I get the chance, I play the games that get sent to me from Developers (for Reviewing purposes) and games which I've bought like:-
- Halo 3 :: XBOX 360
- PGR 3 :: XBOX 360
- FIFA 07 :: XBOX 360
- Final Fantasy XI :: XBOX 360
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma :: PS3
- Heavenly Sword :: PS3
I don't play the Wii, that Console doesn't have my attention right now.
I'm currently waiting for Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (since I love Manga/Anime) to be released and also Assassins Creed.

Yeah, Assassins Creed is also one of my most wanted this year.
You have quite an impressive gaming history there.
I love retro-gaming, it's where I began and I often return to the glory of such titles as Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and of course Shinobi 3.
Also, I do enjoy just attacking Super Mario 3 on the SNES (the All-Stars Collection) absolutely brilliant.

And this is where the thread went over my head! I only got into gaming a few years ago with the Xbox, then the Xbox 360. More on my blog if anyone cares.. (http://carocat.co.uk/about-me/)
Most of the games you mention I've heard about, but not played.
Still, I take it you're not one of the 'younger' members?
I'm 20 years old (still young) but I'm told I act a lot older than what I seem. Then again, good typing skills and manners always seem to cause that affect.
I'll take a look at your blog, and if you like, feel free to add me on XBOX Live if your ever up for a game of something.

Will do, I'm mainly playing Halo 3 at the moment and at slightly ridiculous hours [like at this time of night!].
Good typing skills are important to me, I hate everyone that uses text speak in forums, I mean there's no limit on the amount of characters you can use..

So, as you review games, what website do you write for? And, you're the same age as me, but with such a 'nice' job title, and good typing skills and manners (as you said), you seemed to be a bit older than that.
Still, it's a good thing to have.

Same with you, Hanley, I thought you were a bit older as well. It's impressive just how much a difference proper typing can make.
Ah very true. I once tried writing a novel so good mannerisms were a must at the time. Although, I have since given up that venture and taken up other forms of writing.
I'll play you on Halo 3 at some point then, that ought to be a good match (be it Co-Op or Matchmaking) :)
Sorry, I forgot to mention the sites I write for, I actually co-own the GameSkank site (http://www.gameskank.net) although the name doesn't sound very nice to begin with, I will state it's nothing dangerous. The name was a play-on-words and I didn't license the Domain.
Not as impressive as Console Monster however.

Yeah, it's amazing how text can make people think others are older than what they actually are. "Txt tlk" is bloody annoying, and I can't even do it in texts; I use full English and proper grammar. Suppose it's just one of those things. Still, in the gaming world, it's not how you write, it's how you game. :)
I almost once applied to write for Console Monster, but ended up owning half of a gaming community, so either way it worked out.
I use text talk from my mobile, but that's only when I need to be informal due to being in a rush or emergencies.

Well, I use predictive text on my mobile, so no txt spk there...
And yes, you're right, Hanley, it's how we game!
Indeed, the gaming is the important part to the business, but in all honesty I'm not great at gaming. Although, I do my best gaming on FPS's and RPG's.
RPG is my favourite form of gaming, I just like games with a good story to them.

Excited by Mass Effect then?

As you, I'm quite a bad gamer, I do it for fun though, and not 'I'm gonna ----- about the other team because I lost a game on Halo 3' etc. it's all about the fun. Although, FIFA 08 can get frustrating with people using the old style tactic; run down the wing, cross, and hope for the best.
Mass Effect doesn't excite me, I've looked it all over many times and Microsoft keep forcing it on me but I'm not taking to it at any rate. Although, the game does look nice.
The storyline's concept has been used many times, Companies just keep twisting information to make the games seem new. I usually expect better from BioWare.
Knowing me though, I'll end up getting it just to have some fun.
As far as FIFA goes, I won't play that online, etc, I feel there are too many of these little tricks people can use. It is however, fun beating family members.

Well, BioWare have yet to disappoint me and I'm liking the Mass Effect universe. I've recently read the Mass Effect Revelations book which is a prequel to the game and it is shaping up quite nicely, the aliens are believable, so is the story of humanity exploring space.
But I agree about what seems to be the overall game storyline. Question is just how much else is there?
heheh, very true, but then again, Halo 3 is addictive.
I've yet to play Skate, but I'll get around to it at some point :)
All games seem to follow a 'winning formula' these days, which spans to a more rounded outlook on Genre's, etc. Basically, it leaves a bitter taste when many games seem to follow in each others footsteps.
There aren't many games I can say are 'defining points' anymore and it feels like we get a rushed product that even though good, could have offered so much more in the long-run.

Welcome to the forums (Y).
I predict you will/have lose many hours playing online in FFXI but it was a good game in it's day and it's massive so it will keep you going for months and months.
Thanks for the welcome DControl :)
I'm actually playing Guild Wars more than FFXI, I needed a swap, plus after reaching 75 Dragoon I sort of got bored.
Guild Wars will have my attention for a while I think.
