yup, that's the newest RUMOUR doing the rounds on ye olde t'internet this week. theres many sites that have posted this news, but here's a fairly reliable one. http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=21354
what's your thoughts?
i'd kind of be devastated but happy at the same time, i always thought that the bungie microsoft relatioship wasn't a particularly pleasant one. just look at the extras on the new legendary edition and off halo 2, for tiny remarks here and there, and also on weekly updates.
i'd say this is entirely likely, but also just as unlikely. weird eh?
of course that email could just be a fraud, sending the internets tubes into a frenzy!!!!!
also i do believe that MS own the rights to halo, soooo, would mean any future plans bungie would do regarding the halo universe would be destroyed. UH OH OH OH OH

Well its like Bizarre jumping ship aswell. They liked when MS threw loads of cash at them when they weren't as big as they are now but now that the dust has settled they see the true picture. I have always said the reason Xbox has done so well is that MS had to buy the company to make it exclusive for them (you choose the game) and ensure sales. Yes the ps3 has no games but Sony really haven't paid a mint to get games developed for them - you don't see them buying everyone who shows an interest in their products. If sony did then they may be in a better position now - but they didn't. I may also point out that it could be too late for the ps3 now - with only a handful of games exclusive to it. Yes many people will see MS for being great and all for pumping sheds loads of cash into the xbox - but we are the ones paying for it. You honestly don't think MS is going to make a loss for the rest of its days?

But fair play to Bungie. Maybe now can they show their true potential and make a game that can be enjoyed by those that like a long single player experience and a MP tacked on somewhere

I do hope that Bungie try their hand at something else. MS have always been a good partner to Bungie so I cannot see what they would like to split up. MS know that Bungie can produce amazing games and Bungie know that MS will support them. Bungie need to move onto something new and fresh and MS will have no problems in backing them.

Not sure what Bungie will do now, hopefully somthing different and not just another FPS. Need Bungie RPG :) Time will tell if this is a rumour or not as Bungie have to look at this from a money point of view also. It is not like they are poor after Halo 3 launched right?

Bungie cant just leave, Microsoft own them and all their IP. The devs could all quit and setup elsewhere but they cant just leave.

if you read the email that got sent, it's saying that microsoft are in effect, "letting them go" but they still own the rights to MS. thing is with the bizarre comment though, bungie were already fairly big before MS bought them, they were pure mac -----s. i reckon they'll do an RTS next, that's how Halo started out, and i think thats what their first real game was Pathway into Darkness.

I don't see how this is a bad thing for MS at all. I think it's win-win.

Bungie have the freedom to do whatever they like again, creating stellar games that don't get rushed.

MS has the Halo franchise on lockdown, and first dibs publishing any new IPs.

I hope it's true.

yeah in a way i kind of hope it's true, just kind of sucks how MS get the rights to halo. means they'll probably have someone like RARE developing it. booo.

Bungie would still make Halo... as it's the biggest gaming franchise of all time. MS just has sole rights to publish any Halo game Bungie makes.

halo wars has nothing to do with master chief or even bungie for that matter.
i did see the ending yeah
and i just dont think making more halo games about the same universe is good
halo 3 should be the end.

I don't actually think it's bad. Bungie have made other good games [Myth!] and it will be nice going back to that.
