THQ promises darker Saints Row sequel

It was back in May that publisher THQ said it was scrapping the PlayStation 3 version of Saints Row and turning all attention to the at-the-time unannounced sequel. The company is now talking about what we can expect from the new gangs-'n'-guns game.

The sequel, simply called Saints Row 2, is said to be much grittier in tone than last year's successful open-world game, telling a tale of betrayal, revenge and redemption.

THQ and developer Volition are upping the sandbox elements, bringing new vehicles and expanding Stillwater, the city at the heart of the action. There will also be expanded online co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes.

Lead producer Greg Donovan says the game will still have the same sense of humour that helped Saints Row become one of the best-selling games in the early days of the Xbox 360.

Saints Row 2 is coming for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and will be released sometime during 2008.

Well, hopefully they can make a better game second time around as the first one was a poor man's GTA.
It'll be interesting to see if people are prepared to buy a second game of this genre seeing a GTA IV is out next year

I Thought Saints Row was the dogs nads but nowhere as good as gta and ill still be getting the both of them

saints row was class, the multiplayer would have been great if it wasnt so laggy.

They fixed that Jam man, just a little late. I'll defo get it! GTA IV will be the better one though.. much better.

I thought Saints Row was good but not as good as the GTA series but i would not say Saints Row is crap. But if Saints Row 2 comes out same time as GTA4 i will only be purchaseing GTA4 as it is looking amazing and has some very cool features in it like you can do more than 1 mission at a time and has its own internet system in the game.

But the amount of content that they are putting into GTA is good, saints row 2 if it wants to catch up with GTA needs very new ideas something that the GTA games have not got that is how you are going to get ahead and make the fundementals of the game work almost perfectly.

You shouldn't compare them that much, GTA created a new genre. SR & crackdown etc are not clones, they're sand box games... it's a genre.

It's like Oblivion and two worlds, two worlds didn't rip from them.. they are two different games in the same genre.

I didn't mind Saint's Row but I thought it was lacking something. I probably won't get the second installment unless I play a demo first and like it that is. GTA will undoubtedly be much bigger and better I'd expect, so for now I'm opting for just GTA and no SR 2 at the moment.

Saints Row was good... but the humour made the game sell? It was nothing but sexual innuendos that my 9 year old niece could probably understand.

GTA's humour is not only clever, but it'll make you laugh at the simple things.

May get SR 2 though, online could be good without the lag.
