Is Halo as popular as the mainstream press make out?

Just logged on to have a quick blast of Halo 3, checked my friends list and of the 15 that where online, everyone was playing it.

So quick poll to see how popular Halo 3 is.

Yes....though I'm not really sure why. Graphically it isn't great, player movement could be better, Multiplayer feels a bit jerky, it isn't very imaginative (settings, characters, weapons), there's many better games out and on the horizon but it does have a certain draw to it.

Ever since last night I had between 15-40 people online all playing Halo at any point. Apart from Thornbag and phat who just had to be different. ;)

I didn't buy it and of about 25 people online, 12-13 are playing it. I can clearly some games have died out a little now too, COD3 for example(still get rooms though).

I wasnt clamoring to get it, but my bro was like a dog with two dicks in anticipation of it.

I got it on Tuesday, but have yet to get hooked into the story.

I am more interested in Infinity Ward raising the level cap on COD4 than I am in Halo 3 at present. Once the COD4 Beta is done on Sunday I am sure I will spend some major play time with it.

I have bought it, but have not had a chance to look at it yet, and doubt I will get a chance before Friday. Most people in my Friend's list (who are still active on XBox LIVE) have the game, so yeah I'd say it's pretty popular

the multiplayer is addictive
the new features (forge etc) are great fun!

i bought it btw its nothing more than just ok i dont understand why people think its the best thing ever made its not, the best game ever is half life 2 and it ----s on halo 3 from space and that came out 3 years ago looks better plays better it is better

not saying halos bad its still enjoyable but its not the next coming of Christ wrapped up in agame.

and the multiplayer is average as well theirs not much going on in tactical game types witch is a thumbs down from me but the death match is fun but gets boaring for me as its soo repedative

I kind of agree, but as a console game it stands head and shoulders above all others.

Half-Life 2 is a better single player game tho.

I don't think it stands head and shoulders above other console games....there's games out already that have Halo beat on most areas.

And everyone who's played the CoD4 Beta has experienced what a real jaw-dropping game is like....Halo 3 is pretty average tbh. If Halo 3 is holding a crown, CoD4 will be stealing it very soon.

I haven't bought Halo.. Didn't think too much of the Beta..

But the COD4 beta is amazing.. Definately the best FPS in history!

Graphics / gameplay are on a whole new level..

Well Halo 3 and GOW are definitely different games. Graphically GOW gets my vote but playability, replayability and mulitplayer Halo 3 wins hands down for me. It's not going to be to everyone's liking but I think its a real good game so far from what I've encountered. The amount of game modes are brilliant (plus you can download ones made by Bungie) and I've had loads of laughs on it so far.

i bought it, and with over 250000 people online when i put it in, i think it is a bit popular.

I do also think CoD4 will take my time away from halo though. Roll on new maps and game modes!

The advantage with Halo is that it will get more after release support than any other game
ie. the halo3 section already on the dashboard

Halo 3 will be the game of the year but i expect the numbers on - line will go down with all the new releases coming out at the end of the year but dont get me wrong it will still be popular lol

halo 3 is no better than halo 2 in single player ive found it a bit ---- to be honest

Truplaya: What are you referring to by Halo 3 section? Do you mean the options when you select a friend? If so that's gamespecific, BF2 on the 360 has that as well. It just depends on whether or not a developer can be bothered to go the extra mile.

No flames here, I actually think it's a valid point, GoW was nice to look at but was WAY too short and had the most poorly written story I've ever played through.
Hopefully if there is a sequel to GoW they'll make the single player experience a bit more satisfying

it just wasn't exactly the halo killer everyone was saying it would be. people have mostly stopped playing it now,
most people wont stop playing halo 3 til xbox 720 comes out. as halo 2 proved.
i can putmy flame proof suit away now :D

I wasnt convinced i would enjoy it when i bought it, and now that ive played it i cant see what the fuss is all about.
Its ok but it isnt great.
