This Christmas (I gave you my heart...), I'm looking to get either Windows Vista (for gaming), or a PlayStation 3.
With Vista, I could play games such as Gears of War (new campaign chapters), Tomb Raider: Anniversary (also coming out on Wii though), Crysis and Alan Wake (if it turns out to be PC exclusive). But with a PS3, I could play games such as Motorstorm, LittleBigPlanet, Haze and so on.
I've only played on a PS3 once (Resistence and Motorstorm) and thought it was ok, but would I be best upgrading to Vista, rather than spending £400 on a brand new console?

Qs: He has a 360. ;)
Wriggy: Can your PC handle Vista and the games you want to play? If not how much would the upgrading cost?
Do you prefer playing console of PC games?
Yea I was going to suggest the same as Cat, it depends if you have a PC capable of running Vista Games for Windows games. Who knows what specs you need for games such as Alan Wake, you can find out about Crysis but its still not retail so specs could change to run that puppy smoothly. A card to do that will easily meet the PS3 price range let alone a copy of Vista on top of that.

Unless you want to spend some serious dosh, I would get a PS3.
The current batch of DX10 cards really dont cut the mustard in DX10 games, they blow DX9 games out the water and run really well though. I would hold off until the 2nd Generation DX10 cards start appearing before considering an upgrade (thats what I am doing personally).
I have Vista 64 bit Home Premium and everything runs really well (except Bioshock), its lightning quick but very memory hungry. I was gonna drop another 2 gig in but will wait until I upgrade the processer and mobo again just after xmas to do it now.

I'd get a PS3 with that pc gaming requires upgrades every so often. Anyway by christmas they should have some decent games out for it and you can already pick a PS3 up for PS3 £349.99 (http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=dettagli&codart=PS3BU00) from good old ShopTo.net

Looks like I'm swaying towards Vista slightly after looking at the games but then towards the PS3 when I read the Bioshock Recommended Specification (not looking to get it on PC but it's the latest Games For Windows game release):
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo processor
System RAM - 2GB
Video card - DX9 - Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT or better) / DX10 - NVIDIA GeForce 8600 or better
Sound Card - Sound Blaster X-Fi series (Optimized for use with Creative Labs EAX ADVANCED HD 4.0 or EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 compatible sound cards)
Currently, I just need to improve on my RAM and Video card and maybe the Sound Card :)

You should get a PS3. I know there aren't many games out for the PS3 yet, but in time there will be... I just got a PS3 and love it. Haze, Mafia 2 (when it comes out... :P), LA Noire are looking good. Anyway, you'll be spending a fortune adding RAM, a new video card and a sound card, plus Vista is expensive.

I know the PS3 has some great games being released next year, but I'd rather wait till next spring/summer to get one whereas Vista has Crysis and other top quality games coming out within the next few months.
Another point is, the Windows Media Center. My PC would be very close to my 360 so I could easily link them up which would mean getting more out of both my 360 and PC...

I want both, I was just unsure which one to get first.
I think I'll end up getting Vista as I'll get more out of Vista than PS3.

vista sucks.
Vista when you 1st use it is a pain in the ---, but once you have it running the way you want you wont like using XP again.
UAC is a pain in the ----.
I have been more than impressed with it.
