Well at least if thats the case we might be able to get a Goal Of The Month competition going this time around (Y) :). Hopefully I or another member can implement a multi format competition (360, PS3 & PC at the very least). I'll be getting it for the PS3 at the moment although that could change depending if there is any difference between versions. I prefer the PS3 pad for football to be honest. As long as its a dramatic improvement on the farce that was PES6 then I'm happy. One thing I noticed though is that the pitches look absolutely huge, I mean look at the size of the kick off circle, it's massive! Plus I hope they update the transfer data to especially since Man Utd have sold Guiseppe Rossi to Villareal and he's still in their squad list on that picture. If not though I'll do it the old manual way!

The only real problems with the last one was the editing mode, and the inability to save replays.

PES2008 - there is a full editing mode, which is more enhanced than ever before, and you can save replays.

The graphics will no doubt be even better, aswell.

Win/win.

Well it looks as if Wriggy didn't know that you could customise the buttons (perhaps he does). Doesn't make him a retard or a ponce so enough of the insults already. His main gripe was with the controls, the default ones did feel weird (I think that was just because I was used to the PS2 pad previously though).

The only button thats most held down for me is the run button.

I wouldn't say it is that far behind, if behind at all. It depends which way you look at it. PES' graphics are realistic, whereas FIFA's game may look alright, but it isn't exactly realistic, with random bright lights always shining on players faces in cut scenes and whatnot. Also most of the time, they can't ge tthe licensed kits to look all that good.

Because they never released an '06' version. It was just PES6. Like it's been from the beginning, just a number. Now they've decided to change it to they year, 7 years on.

Of all places, mens magazine ZOO confirmed that the commentary team for the UK version of PES 2008 has indeed been changed. The tremendous duo this time? None other than Jon Champion and Mark Lawrenson.

So confirming rumors that W.E.N.B. have been hearing for a while now, Brackley and Brooking have been ditched. I personally have mixed feeling about this one. As an Italian fan it was fantastic having Peter commentating on the matches, reminiscent of Football Italia. It never reached those heights in the actual game admittedly, but I blame the script rather then good old Brackley.

What softens the blow a little is that the two new commentators have undoubted pedigree and should provide a better experience. Lets just try and forget about their efforts in ISS 3 though ;)

I found it hard to keep track of the ball on the 360 video but only because the camera is so far away. Looking good though.

Just a heads-up. I played PES 2008 yesterday in Leipzig, and it's awesome. Also played Fifa 08, which is great but PES has totally out done it this year.

PES 08 has Super Slick Gameplay on all platforms (I played 360, PS3, PS2 and PC) and the next-gen versions are on par with Fifa graphically IMO. Never heard any commentary (it was disabled at Leipzig) so can't confirm or deny the commentator rumour, but it wouldn't surprise me if they had changed it.

Seemed easier to pass into space with the X button now, so you can pick your spot to pass the ball into. Players seemed to run to the ball instead of standing on the spot waiting for it whilst the defender ran around him.

Refs are spot on this year also - you can finally slide in and get the ball without getting penalised. Code was 75% complete, and was absolutely superb.

Euro release was confirmed as October 2007 and brief Hands-on article is going up tonight so look out.

All the versions played identical, altho the PS2 one obv didn't look as good graphically.

PC one wasn't quite as crisp, but that's cos it obviously wasn't running in HD

I honestly can't wait for this years Pro Evo. I getting fed up of playing PES6 on the PS3 now. They've changed some formats of the Master League too which is good. The Master League had needed and overhaul for some years now though to be fair.

Reading what Russ has said has got me wanting it even more. Roll on release day.

That review is crazy.

I went to Leipzig, and played the game on PS3 for over 2 hours, with NO slowdown at all - and that was on 75% finished code.

I find it really hard to believe that Konami, a well respected game developing company, would completely bodge up a world class title by cranking the last 25% up so high that framerates are unplayable. Surely they'd of had game testers saying to them "hold on, that's crap"...

I wonder if the pro-g staff tried the game in normal view, not wide - as at Leipzig I never played Wide view.

Well I'm with Russ on this one. I've heard there is slowdown on the 360 version as well. I won't be happy with Konami if it turns out to be a big let down like the last version.

The slowdown is a bit hit and miss too. Some people who have the game reported none and others say it's always doing it. Until I get my copy I can't really comment on it. There are a few things you can try to stop the game slowing down though so I've heard. The speed of the game had been altered too from what I can gather from other forums posts. I'm just waiting patiently for it now, roll on the end of the week.

Seabass: Of course. To be honest I don't think the slow-down is that bad compared to the 360 and as I said, we don't create just a PS3 game, we created both together. But when we compared them directly we were shocked because the PS3 has a little bit more slowdown and we don't really know why.

The 360 demo was fine, other than a couple of weird pauses there was nothing to detract from the fun, PS3 version isn't sounding too great.

Well I had my copy of PES 2008 yesterday hence why I wasn't on here all day. I didn't notice any slowdown on the PS3 version only that the replays look and play weird unless you take control of them yourself. I have a master league with my mate set up already and there is going to be a countless number of hours spent improving it.

It's hard work at the beginning with all the donkeys you have but perseverance is the key. Our defence is a shambles at present, the midfield total useless (couldn't string many passes together) and as for the attack well surprisingly enough they are the only ones appearing to be decent in a poor team. One thing I have noticed though is the new popularity feature. You have to build your team up by winning matches to improve their popularity so that bigger players will eventually come or want to come to you. A nice new twist I think although I'll let you know when I sign someone.

the 360 version seems as smooth as could be asked for, i did get one bit of slowdown when 4 players were playing, but only once. I love the way it keeps your track record of statistics.

Played it for hours at work yesterday with a colleague...was perfect, lovely and smooth (bar the dodgy replays and cut scenes) and a great laugh. A few hours of playing it at work lined up for today too.

So glad I opted for the 360 version.

anyone get the three 'zones' of focus on their screen. Only comes up ion HD as far as i can tell but its stating to annoy me. There two arched lines across the pitch all the time.

Apart from that i love it, master league is a bit better and i've had no slow down, exept once on 3 player. I think the keepers have been made better and more realistic.

I hate Master League - I refuse to play on anything less than 5star, and the AI just cheat.

They're suddenly much stronger and faster than they should be, and they read every pass, making it near impossible to string 3 passes together, unless you jockey it around your defence, much like they do for 60 of the 90 minutes.

This game's only good for playing against mates.

i have to play on the one below top difficulty, coz it seems that the computer team, who ever it is becomes too fast and can read thoughts and see the future. It does get ridiculous when you have a 20 yard headstart but still the defender catches you and takes the ball off you, from behind without fouling you

Well early hours this morning I achieved the D2 league and cup double. My teams now a B popularity wise and I've signed a couple of good players (Pablo Aimar & Jermaine Defoe). My Everton team is now tons better with other signings and I've sold my top scorer Yakubu (Juventus) and Andy Johnson (Bordeaux) I feel like a traitor. The gameplay is now getting interesting with my new signings and better teams I'm up against makes it hard but I'm adapting well so far. My first D1 game I won 0-5 which was an achievement in itself compared to struggling to get results last season.

It's a wonder I can still talk with the amount of swearing I do at the tv with all the decisions that go against me on it. Overall I'm enjoying it much more in D1 since I have more quality players and I can pass and shoot well :). The saga continues......

OMG I almost had him signed and Eto'o but they put the transfer on hold so I didn't get them in the end but I will in the next load of negotiations hopefully. Just to bolster the attack like. Some more defenders I could do with really and ones which don't get tired easily too.
