I'm disapointed that the Panthers lost but they didnt stand a chance with a 4 string tailback. Anyway who are you picking for this years Superbowl, Steelers or Seahawks? I got the steelers winning close. There defense is just to good and the finaly have a good offense and we all know defense wins Superbowls just ask the 85 Patriots or the 01 Gaints. So who you got?

mjmaskrey
23/Jan/06, 05:07 AM
I really don't know...so I'll say Seahawks! Why? Cos it's the better of the 2 names.

It's difficult to follow NFL for me....it's like me asking you who will win out of Derby and Forest? I reckon you wouldn't know who the hell I was on about!

:)

Thats easy for me,................hmmmmmmm......Stealers
I wish Browns would atleast get to Super Bowl, but that will probably will never happen, with its offense....never......with its defense......never......never

THE WHEELS ON THE BUS GO ROUND AND ROUND!

I don't necessarily want the Steelers to win it, but I've got a feeling they're going to be too good. And it'll be a perfect send off for The Bus.

Killer 57
23/Jan/06, 08:35 PM
The Bus deserves a ring and on his final game just like John Elway.

I have been watching Superbowls highlights on ESPN classic and I noticed that the team with a really good offense and a solid defense always loses to a team with a solid offense and a badass defense an example Raiders(#1 offense, pretty good defense) Vs Bucaneers (#1 defense and a solid defence) the result the Bucs blow out the Raiders my 20 points.

I will be willing to bet that the Patroits,Broncos,Colts, and the Bengals could all beat the Seahawks. Why because the Seahawks are playing in the NFC which is a complete joke of a confrence especialy the divisons they play in, they got to play the 49ers the worst team in the NFL, the Cardinals whose defense is mediocer at best and the Rams who are a shell of there former selfs, all those teams have losing records its pretty sad that a team that goes 8-8 can still make the playoffs in the NFC but a team that goes 9-7 in the AFC never had a chance who els is good in the NFC? the Panthers? the Dolphins beat them the freakin Dolphins! who els The Redskins the Raiders beat them at home, the steelers crushed the Bears, what about the Bucs the Patroits shut them out 28-0.The point the Seahawks are yet to play a Real team who can play the Steelers have defeated the top 3 teams in the NFL and on the Road. This SuperBowl could be a blow out you can quote me on that.

AfroJoe
03/Feb/06, 02:07 PM
That's why the say "Defence Wins Championships".

It might be the most overly cliched phrase in the sport, but damn, it's true.

Nice post Killer! Exactly why I think the Steelers will win.

But yeah, as long as your solid in the defense - and then just hope the offencse can grab a few points.

Halo3Sniper01
03/Feb/06, 07:08 PM
personally i want both teams to win:

the steelers bacuse the bus and cower need it
the seahawks cause it's their first time being there

AfroJoe
03/Feb/06, 09:36 PM
I don't want either team to win, because I dislike both of them. :D

The Steelers because they play in awful colours and have arrogant morons like Joey Porter, and the Seahawks because they bore me. Alexander, left end, TD. Rubbish.

So, yeah, Steelers win, just for the Bus.

All you need to know about American Football right here (http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761557873/Football.html)

AfroJoe
03/Feb/06, 09:53 PM
It is a complicated sport, yes, but I believe that's for the better. It's good to have a sport which is so hard-hitting and violent also require a lot of tactical knowledge and gameplans.

As I say, it is very complicated, but once you've learned some of the more basic rules, you'll start to enjoy it quite a lot.

RiLu@
03/Feb/06, 09:58 PM
thanks killer and afrojoe i know some of the basics like in rugby.
but the best is seating and watching a game with someone that knows all about it and explains it as it goes.
it's the same with baseball, hit the ball run, run back because some catch the ball, hit the ball run, "oh no he just killed a bird how many points is that?" that's all about it, what i know about baseball!

AfroJoe
03/Feb/06, 10:03 PM
Haha, I take it you're referring to that quality video with the bird getting flattened.

Anyone got a link to that?

Killer 57

The way I learned the rules of American Football was that I just bought Madden (03 I think) and just sat down and played. And you pick them up so easily and quickly its unrealy. Didn't think i'd ever get it into it.

Because I don't like follow everything that happens, can someone explain what/who the Bus is? :s

AfroJoe
04/Feb/06, 05:14 PM
Nonono, the Bus is a running back called Jerome Bettis. He's an absolute tank, thus has the nickanme "The Bus".

Cheers!!! Take it he must be fast?

He's built like a brick sh...wall! :)

AfroJoe
04/Feb/06, 06:45 PM
Yeah, he's got good speed. Not as fast as most running backs, obviously, but over the years he's been one of the best due to just being able to batter through people.

The defensive line can stop most runners, but not Bettis. Hence, "The Bus", because he takes them for a ride. Usually backwards into their own endzone for a TD. :D

WACCOE
04/Feb/06, 06:47 PM

Cheers, that's my first rep. :D

According to my User CP, it's my 3rd, but yours is the only one which has actually added to my total. Maybe because the other people had 0 rep as well or something.

*shrug*

Anyway, the Bus probably won't get a whole lot in the way of carries, as the Steelers have a very good running game without him. He's just a bonus for goal-line and short down situations. Willie Parket (excellent name) will probably start, with the Bus coming in half way through the game like he has been doing most of this season.

It'd be a great respect to him if he played right from the start, but I doubt it'll happen.

Killer 57
04/Feb/06, 07:20 PM
The Steelers are going to come out passing and jump out to early lead like they have the past two games once that happens its all over for the Seahawks why? the Seahawks have a mediocer pass defense and thats against mediocer QBs like Kurt Warner and Jake Delhome, there is not one good QB in the NFC not one and there pass defense still struggled Big Ben is going to pick apart that Defense, But the Seahawks lead the NFL in sacks but they faced weak offense lines and crappy defenses so the Seahawks got a lead and then they could just rush the passer.

So can the Seahawks score on the steelers D the answere is no, the Steelers run a 3-4 defense the last team the seahawks faced that ran a 3-4 defense the Dalles Cowboys and the score was 13-10 so much for that offense, second this isnt The Panthers Defense whom the Dolphins just destroyed for over 300 yds of offense or the Redskins defense who got torn apart by the Raiders no this is the Pitsburgh Steelers Defense and not even Chad Johnson and the explosive Bengals Offense could do anything against them and Most importandly not even Peyton Manning and Colts who many considerd the Greatest offense of the decade they couldnt score twenty points against the dominant Steelers D.

The Result a 30 to 19 victory for the Steelers with Ben Roethlisberger as your SuperBowl MVP.

AfroJoe
04/Feb/06, 07:42 PM
You say Roethlisberger, I say Polamalu. :)

Two picks, one returned for a TD.

05/Feb/06, 02:05 AM
Hehe, I don't think the Seahawks will get completely shut out. It is a possibility, though, because the Steelers defense is daaaaaaaamn good.

Especially with my man Polamalu. My MVP pick had better do stuff tomorrow/tonight/whatever.

Killer 57
05/Feb/06, 03:35 AM
nah they won't get shout out they will score some points and btw Afrojoe polamalu has a sprained ankel but is expected to play, Jerry Rice played in superbowl 31 with a seperated shoulder and still dominated so I wouldnt worry.

AfroJoe
05/Feb/06, 03:46 AM
Damn, he'd better not pull out injured.

If so, MVP prediction = Porter. I hate the guy, but he's a damn good LB.

I still think the Steelers will win this game with the D.

Killer 57
05/Feb/06, 04:02 AM
The coaches say that its nothing serious and that he should be ready for sunday. I don't think Joey Porter will be MVP if it a defensive player it will be Polamalu or Farrior, Farrior is going to be the one taking on Shaun Alexander.

Who you got as Unsung Hero? I would say Heath Miller im sure he will make some key catches.

AfroJoe
06/Feb/06, 02:04 AM
Yeah, I doubt it's going to be Big Ben now, due to that INT, so if it's offensively for the Steelers, it'll no doubt be Ward.

Killer 57

he did that crazy throw and the touchdown, he didn't cross the line they got it anyway!

Reason I don't think he's got much of a chance now is because he has also thrown an INT, which is a major negative factor in stats.

You can pass it around, but like in rugby, it has to be a lateral (backwards pass).

In the NFL its seen as too risky, though, so lateralling the ball hardly ever happens.

Watched all the game last night - was knackered at school today. Couldn't get on to post though...

Anyway, my thoughts on the game. It wasn't very exciting, nout much really happened...but the Steelers deserved imo.

However, I don't think there 1st TOUCHDOWN! should have counted, no way, bad call imo. Especially after he reivewed it at the booth aswell, should have been overturned. Even the commentator on Sky Sports who is a Stellers fan said he didn't think it should have counted...and he's biased as hell!

Im still in 2 minds about the Seahawks TOUCHDOWN! which didn't count though, as I didn't think what he did was major enough to not allow it.

However, the MVP was warrented just for that amazing interception!

However, the MVP was warrented just for that amazing interception!

:)

Yeah, Halling and Martin were being so biased I ended up switching over to ITV at half time.

And the MVP was a receiver, so I guess you mean "reception". :)

Indeed I do. HAHA! :D

I stuck with Sky Sports, not sure why - guess it took too much effort to pick up the remote.

Was going to say something about the Seahawks coach, but forgot it...

He looks like a walrus? :D

Another thing which bugged me about Sky Sports was that they didn't even show the closing ceremony. That's what I heard, anyway. They went back to the studio when ITV kept their on-the-pitch coverage going after the match.

So much for the "better coverage" everyone was talking about beforehand.

Heh, soon as that clock hit 0.00 I hit the pillow and drifted off. Saw the ceremony on Sky Sports News earlier though.

I liked the way ITV didn't put any of the build-up on though, because that was just pure tosh on Sky Sports, if anyone saw it.

Plus, an added extra - on ITV you get to see Gabby Logan, yesh pleash. :p

Heh, yeah, Gabby Logan was looking nice. Shame she knows (and confessed it herself) absolutely nothing about the sport. :D

All she has to do is read a bloody autocue next to the camera...someone who just got ran down by "The Bus" could probably read that. :D

Oh yeah, and he does look a bit liek a walrus, you're right. :D

He looks damn like Andy Reid as well. The Eagles coach.

Spot the difference. :D

(Sorry about the mismatch in image size - they were the two most similar styles of photo)

Indeed he does. Andy Reid's just fatter though, and wear's a tighter top to show off his fatness. :p

Should add a pic of a walrus under them two aswell. :D

on the big bens touchdown, his shoulder was the first part of his body to touch the floor does it count then or is it the ball that counts, because when a player falls and hits the floor with knees first then it's the knees that counts right?

Its the knees and the elbows that count, once one of them hit the floor the player is down by contact.

so i think it was that that validated the tochdown, big bens elbow was on the line on his tochdown or almost it's hard to see!

They didn't get totally demolished. They were easily the better team in the first quarter, but I think a mixture of poor playcalling and bad officiating cost them the game.

I'll never work out why Holmgren decided to punt, 2 scores down, with 6.50 to go in the 4th. YOU'RE IN THE GODDAMN SUPERBOWL, YOU MORON!

I wondered that too AJ - I thought he was going to fake it to start with - but like you say, it was the Superbowl - you've just got to go for it, nothing to lose when it gets to that stage!
