Sony again has been a naughty boy by pissing of The Church of England, and you know you've gone to far when the Priests are considering legal action, talk about role reversal.

Anyway here's the story...

The Church of England is considering legal action against entertainment firm Sony for featuring Manchester Cathedral in a violent computer game.

Sony Playstation's 'Resistance: Fall of Man' uses the interior of the cathedral's nave without permission.

The game, which has sold more than one million copies, shows a virtual shoot-out in the cathedral's nave in which hundreds of soldiers are killed.

A Sony spokesman said that permission had been sought where necessary. {Read} (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/6736809.stm)

Views? Thoughts?

It appears as if basically Sony have tried to get away without getting permission based on the fact that as the Game is a recreation and includes no Video or Photography from the Scene. Then permission isn't required.

Obviously a short sight but yet another reason to have a go at Sony for being an ass...lol

he he, i dont think it will cuase major problems for them really, its not like people arent going to continue to buy shooters just because of the seeting in which they are placed. id pick sony over the church anyday. but that is just my view.

Well It's not something you see everyday, the Church taking Legal Action instead of getting done for covering it up, I mean it I'd rate it above most things aswell... lol

News@5? Please don't tell me you watch ITV news :brow:, I mean sure Channel 5 (five) news is better than that, and that's saying alot

It's better to have a church full of "brown" aliens - the game's scene colour sucks - than a church full of pedofilian priests.

I saw this on BBC news earlier today. Where have they been until now? RFOM has been out for months and only now they complain. Then there was a woman on there about the evils of violent video games and they must start protecting young peoples minds. What a load of crap. People have their own minds and they know that video games are mostly based on fiction not reality.

Time for the alternative point of view....

Although all Fiction is exactly that, and some people will obviously use this story to make something out of it that isn't there. Slightly disappointed that the BBC would allow that, but Sony should be required to gain permission of the Owners of the Building to use what is recreated footage of a Private Premisses.

I mean it's hardly fair for them to make huge amounts of money and for the content holders not getting anything... Similar to Piracy that Sony "apparently" fights so hard to protect, it's just a shame that only happens when they are the Right Holders.

"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is aware of the concerns expressed by the Bishop of Manchester and the Cathedral authorities about the use of Manchester Cathedral in the game Resistance: Fall of Man, and we naturally take their concerns very seriously," the statement reads.

"Resistance: Fall of Man is a fantasy science fiction game and is not based on reality. The game is set in an alternate and mythical version of Europe in the 1950s, in which the enemy are strange looking alien invaders seeking to destroy humanity.

"Whilst we believe that we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game, we will be contacting the Cathedral authorities in order to better understand their concerns in more detail."

Sony released a statement about this issue if people are interested.

Well I don't like the way they are using it for Political ends, I mean they have a valid case for Sony not contributing money make they are making a profit from it.

That's why they should of kept it a single issue, but they are now using it to meet their own ends, which is sad :'(
