This isn't on the back of some wack job comment, it's a thought.
Everyday we go around playing or discussing games that more often than not lead to the death of the other Character, especially in the FPS genre, but we never make a fuss.
Most people would state that Murder is the worse crime you could commit, yet although it's virtual, we do this day in day out.
Now although for instance Rape is a lesser Crime, we wouldn't dare support, or at least most wouldn't, the idea of a game that Sexually Harasses an Individual and would no doubt be cast of as sick and disturbing.
However is it the crime or the context?
For Instance most FPS's are based on a kind of Cops and Robbers scenario, where you play the Good Guy taking down these nasty villains. So in context the shooting dead of these people can be seen as acceptable or at least understandable but what about the scenario like I heard of in a Film...
Basically this Women gets Raped, then the Woman seeks revenge on the people that done it and then torture's them? Acceptable?
Or do you have no moral issues with playing any kind of game, mainly due to the fact it's a game, it's not real and no one is getting hurt?

@Mod/Admin: Change Title for us to: Have Violent Films/Games Desensitised us? a slight spelling error!

I have no moral issues with a game (Y) Its a game, doesnt mean i will go out to kill someone because you can do it in a game (Y)
Not to sure about the Rape part? Its wrong to have a game where to win you have to have raped the most people :brow:

I dont have a problem with any violence or other random acts in movies, games etc as I know the difference between that and reality.
I watched Hostel II last night and nothing in that made me wince or look away from the screen.
I spend a lot of time playing FPS online, but would never think about picking up a gun and going on the rampage in real life.

I feel a video game is a source of entertainment - much like movies, music and most other forms of media. It can work on many levels. Sometimes I want a no brainer and go in and cause some mayhem, sometimes I want something that is gonna force me to make more moral decisions.
Didn't want to sound like a wuss but that's why I'm really looking forward to GTA IV. I think the new realistic setting and npc AI is gonna make you think twice whether you should really be ploughing through wave after wave of pedestrians on the pavement.

Why? I mean I'm not arguing with you, I personally don't think a Game concentrated on Raping someone would appeal to me either, it's just why not?
I mean we have game that you can...
-Beat people to death simply to steal some money
-Shoot People in the Head and see the Impact
-Gas People
-Burn People
There's loads of different ways in which you can either Assault someone or Kill them but we've never seen something like Rape. I mean I'm not arguing for that it's one scenario.
How about like a game where the objective is to beat up White People or Black People, or where you beat up Jehovah's Witnesses. Or Kidnap Children... I mean you are probably shocked, well some, but I mean to me Murder is the worst thing you could do but once you start going lesser but adding a twist it's a sudden No No.
So how bout it?
"The Victim's Revenge" where you ripped of Male Genitals and feed em to a Pig
or
"What's up -----..Bang!" where you try and kill as many Black people as you can
I now shocking but where do your morals stop, is there a point in which gaming isn't just a game and more a motivation. Or is it that those who can't distinguish between what is real and not shouldn't be playing let alone talking about these games.

I hear what you are saying actually... It does seem, as in it still is in the movies to some extent, that certain subjects are still taboo. Crimes of a sexual or racial nature are certainly big no no's.
Think you could just about get away with a game that was based on a victims retribution for such a crime as long as it didn't dwell too much on the crime itself... You'll have to give me a slap I'm fairly new here and can tend to waffle on for bloody hours in a thread like this!

Things like that are frowned apon! I mean if the aim of the game was to kill as many Black people or as many white people as posible then that would be frowned apon, christ there would be World War 3 if a game came out where all you did was kill Black people. Exact same thing as Rape - I dont think anyone would enjoy going around raping people for fun as a game. But tbh for the likes of GTA i love going round killing people but i would never do it in real life (N)
When some kid/guy copy's a game and goes on a rampage with a gun (for example Virginia) then for people to blame that on a game cant be right, There something already disturbing with them for them to be able to do that!

I know and to be honest I could probably see where it's coming from but you could simply place it in the context of history, and show the other side of the story even if it is distorted or no longer accepted.
There once was a Conservative MP who's campaigned on the basis of...
"If you want a ------ for a Neighbour, Vote Labour" now no doubtfully that had it's support and from a mainstream party aswell.
Or similar to American History X you could portray it simply like that, just a thought but my point is not the actual scenario just Why Not?

No nor do I but It just came to me today and I thought it was a good point but needed a bit of explaining. And I miss Blaze Lord and Kubrick, they would be ripping this to shreds now, lol, Please coming Back :'(

i grew up to the sounds of rifles killing deer and shotguns killing turkey, going fishing and eating something you just killed, and taking a snake by the tail and whipping it to snap its neck. i grew up around death and i say we climbed to the top of the food chain by killing animals and fighting each other its the way it always has been and always will be until the last man dies. we are humans the most violent race of beings on Earth the sooner you accept it the better so help people in need and keep yourself alive. its survival of the fittest.
